One of the suggestions pupils came up with was toys - what impact do they have on us? Do little girls like dolls because they are girls, or is it because every advert on TV and in magazines shows girls playing with dolls?
We looked for messages about gender in adverts and toys, and we wrote them on post it notes. As we moved round the pictures placed all around the room, we read what other people had written, and commented on whether we agreed or disagreed with them.
At the end of the lesson we fed back on which toys we thought were ok, which were not, and which were most shocking or interesting.
