In a silent debate, you write the questions on big sheets of paper, and pupils move round the room commenting on the questions, and on other people's comments - all in complete silence. We used questions from the "Little Book of Thunks", but you could just as easily use your own or the pupils' own questions.
The kids said this was an interesting way to have a discussion - they commented that the good things were not having to wait to be called on before expressing yourself, and being able to go at your own speed, but that you didn't get "as deep into it as when Miss is grilling you"!
